The Vision of Festus Slew
The Land of the Gods was not always as it is today. In an age when settlements were scattered and the Aetherian Veil was a spectacle rarely witnessed, there lived a man named Festus Slew.
Unlike travellers, who saw the Veil as a beautiful anomaly, Festus felt its presence as a portent, a sign of great things to come—or perhaps, a warning of great dangers.
It began not with a gradual understanding, but with a singular, awe-inspiring event.
While exploring the untamed lands, long before any permanent settlements dotted the landscape, Festus found himself standing at a precipice, overlooking what would become The Veilview Amphitheatre, and staring into the Aetherian Veil.
It was not the shimmering curtain of light most would come to know, but a raw, swirling vortex of energy, crackling with power that made the very air vibrate.
The Encounter
As Festus gazed, transfixed, the Veil... shifted. It pulsed, and for a moment, the fabric of reality seemed to tear. From this rent, something emerged.
Not a creature of flesh and blood, but an entity of pure energy, a being of light and shadow that communicated not with words, but with images and emotions that flooded Festus's mind.
The vision was overwhelming, vast cities reaching towards impossible skies, terrible creatures emerging from the depths of the earth, A great tower, a beacon of light against encroaching darkness.
The Founding of Skyreach
Haunted and inspired by his encounter, Festus became convinced that this place was destined for greatness, or destruction. He sought out others who shared his vision, or at least, were willing to listen to his wild tales.
He gathered a small band of followers, driven by a mix of curiosity, fear, and the promise of a future shaped by the Veil.
Their first act was not to build homes or plant fields, but to raise a monument, a bulwark against the unknown.
Festus believed the entity's vision of a great tower was not merely symbolic. He sought to anchor the power of the Veil, to create a place of both defense and communion.
This Far, No Farther
Festus and his followers journeyed for months, following cryptic clues and seeking out forgotten lore, until they reached the nearest Tower of Aether.
This was not yet the center of power it would become, but a small, isolated order of mystics and wardens dedicated to understanding, protecting and, yes, guarding against the Veil.
Festus, his mind burning with the visions he had received, convinced them of the Veil's significance and the need for a permanent presence at this nexus point.
The Tower of Aether, recognizing the raw power and potential danger Festus described, agreed to send builders and protectors, establishing a fortified tower near the site of Festus's vision.
This tower became the cornerstone of Skyreach. Under its protection, and guided by Festus's unwavering belief in the Veil's destiny, the settlement grew.
It became a beacon for those drawn to the Veil's power, a place of both wonder and trepidation, and a testament to one man's fateful encounter.
