This was a good year for gaming, for me, even with all my fails.
I started the year with big ideas and big goals like the games I wanted to play
Shadowdark
Symboroum
Runehammer
Soulbound (WH40K)
Not only did I play Shadowdark but ran it several times and joined a Shadowdark liveplay that plays every Monday night. Happy to have new friends in the hobby.
I attended the NTRPG Con, for my first time and what a blast it was. I ran my first Castles and Crusades there and it was an epic game with two dwarves on a dungeon delve. You’ll be seeing more C&C content from me this year from me.
Sadly, Symboroum, Runehammer and Soulbound fell by the wayside but that’s what new year goals are about, right?
Back in June I started a zine called Crit Happens and have put out 5 issues since with one on the way. I launched the seed of my own soon to be setting in issue #4 with Hex Crawl of Horror and have been working on fleshing that out in print and video.
On the downside, I stopped running games at my local game store. I can’t tell you exactly why, the passing of my mother-in-law probably contributed to it but even before that I was feeling a little burned out running games twice a month in edition to the the other content I was creating.
My hope is that I will start back, at some point, in 2025.
I also put my professional DM’ing on the shelf, for now. I am re-considering if I want to run games professionally or not. Another decision for 2025.
I started my Youtube membership and have started working on a series unpacking Advanced Dungeons and Dragons setting The Vilhon Reach.
Over all, for me, 2024 was a great year for gaming and 2025 is looking up.
I hope this newsletter, which I started 2 years ago this month, has been informative and entertaining for you this year. Thanks for reading along.
If you’d like to leave an end of the year thank you tip, you are welcome to do so.
My favorite games that I started in 2024: Hostile, Walking Dead RPG and Kar-Arath. Hope to try Shadowdark and Halo Recon in 2025
