50 Things I Love About Dungeons and Dragons
My celebration of 50 year of Dungeons and Dragons (#1-#25)
Since certain stewards of my great hobby will not give it, or the people who participated in the creation of it, the proper fanfare it deserves, I shall don a tuxedo, light fireworks and sip fine bourbon as I extol my passion for D&D.
Here are number 1-25 of why I love Dungeons and Dragons
❤️ The friends I made playing this game have lasted 43 year and counting. We still play on Friday nights and we are not stopping anytime soon. Here’s to 50 more.
❤️ I love the off shoots of my hobby like crafting terrain and painting miniatures. Both of these settle my busy mind and offer a respite from chaotic times
❤️ I love to go to conventions around my favorite hobby and run games. I’m heading to North Texas RPG Con in June. Hit me up if you’re going to be there.
❤️ I love reading the books of D&D. The Crystal Shard and Dragonlance are my favorites and the latter is where I took my YT name from, Flint Fireforge.
❤️ I love that I can have a Youtube channel where I can not only talk about my favorite hobby but help new DM’s/GM’s run epic games.
❤️ I love my collection of old editions and adventures. Sometimes, I just love reading old adventures to see the evocative art.
❤️ I love that D&D inspired me to look into other classic RPG’s Star Frontiers and Gamma World and more current ones like Shadowdark and ICRPG.
❤️ I love the settings and lore of D&D. Greyhawk, Dark Sun, The Forgotten Realms are all worlds that allow me the escapism I seek.
❤️ I love rolling dice. Full stop.
❤️ I love the agony of rolling a 1 and the victory of rolling a 20.
❤️ I love hosting learn to plays at my local game store and watching the same joy appear on peoples faces that appeared on mine when I first played.
❤️ Speaking of game stores, I love to simply walk around a store that sells the hobby I love and see what’s new as well as meet other fans of the game.
❤️ I love rolling up character for no good reason other than I have an idea,
❤️ I love reading my old Dungeon and Dragon magazines for inspiration and to read the Letters to The Editor to catch a glimpse of what was happening in those times.
❤️ I love that I my hobby has afforded me a small side hustle, as a professional DM, of running games for others.
❤️ I love watching the tv shows and movies inspired by D&D like Stranger Things. C’mon Season 4! Hurry up!
❤️ I love every edition, yes, even 4th, because they all offer something new to try.
❤️ I love that D&D has had significant impact on culture which is a long way from growing up during the Satanic Panic.
❤️ I love that I was able to become a Therapeutic Game Master because mental health professionals saw, what I already knew, that D&D is good for your mental health.
❤️ I love, some, D&D paraphernalia like my light up d20, dice trays and dice towers
❤️ I love watching, and listening, to other D&D Youtubers talk about my hobby like Bandit’s Keep, Ghostfire Games, and Sly Flourish (I have dozens more)
❤️ I love having a hobby room/studio dedicated to hanging posters, art and making stuff. It’s a refuge.
❤️ I love rolling on random tables.
❤️ I love that my hobby let’s me say things at the gaming table like, “Are you sure?”, “What does the party want to do?” and roll for initiative.
❤️ I love that I was able to buy a pair of Converse shoes with D&D on it
