I have been watching Delicious in Dungeon over on Netflix and episode 5 had some especially inspiring ideas I thought I’d pass along.
Dungeon Adventurer Retrieval Service
I head one of the character talk about those whose sole job is to come down to the dungeon to retrieve bodies. I can see this being a great job/hook for your adventurers.
Your group could come up with a price to retrieve loved ones from dungeons like the Tomb of Horrors, Tomb of Annihilation or Nightmare Keep. Of course, this is just a way for them to explore these dungeons but with a new set of eyes. Her are a few name ideas for your ‘business”
Dungeon Do Gooders - For the good of society.
The Hero's Rest - This name suggests a peaceful final resting place for fallen adventurers.
Valorous Recovery Guild - This name highlights the bravery required to retrieve bodies.
Spirit’s Gate Expeditions - This name combines the idea of a spiritual journey with the adventurous nature of the service.
Bed, Bath & Bodies and Beyond - Our slogan is “for the price of a bed and bath we’ll find your body.
Bodies R Us - for the more “straight to the point” group.
No-Body, Some-Body and Any-Body Retrieval Services - Very lawyer-y.
Asgard's Embrace - This name references Norse mythology, implying a place of honor for fallen warriors.
Of course, you can alway s use this as an NPC group your players encounter.
What to do with an old dungeon? Turn it into a tavern, of course.
I thought it was interesting that there was a tavern inside this dungeon. Someone was smart and opened a tavern towards the beginning of the dungeon knowing that adventurers would have to come through this section on their way to the deeper dungeons.
But if you want to keep your dungeon deadly, there could always be something wrong with the tavern, like it’s run by ghosts or it's an illusion.
Making your own holy water
This could be a great skill for Clerics, Paladins or Alchemists should the party decided to take on unholy creatures like vampires or devils or other dead.
Give your players a list of ingredients they would need and this could become a side quest or a down time activity. This also gives them a way to use their money.
Tell, do you watch the show? What’s the best D&D idea you’ve gotten from the show and in which episode?
